Why The Law of Attraction Doesn't Work... {Part One}

Over the past ten years, I’ve seen the rise of “The Law of Attraction.” I remember first seeing that movie, “The Secret,” and feeling like I finally had the answer to why things didn’t always go my way.

I’ve perpetually been a hard worker, and was raised to believe that hard work always brings awesome results.

The reality is that sometimes results are nearly impossible to get.

Learning about the Law of Attraction felt like the missing piece, and so I threw myself full force into “manifesting” my dreams and goals. Just like my guided meditation tapes told me, I spent 20 minutes twice a day visualizing my complete manifestation picture. It wasn’t even that lofty…I didn’t want a million dollars, I wasn’t asking for the perfect relationship, and I wasn’t seeking worldwide fame or glory.

I wanted simple things: The ability to pay my rent on time, and the ability to travel (in first class). That may not be a lot, but in those days, to me it was everything, and it felt impossible to achieve. So, every day, I went to my practice, visualizing like crazy, seeing these things as already mine.

Months passed.

I went to an expert. Do you know what she said to me? I wasn’t doing it right. I wasn’t sincere enough. But, if I paid her $100/month for coaching, she could show me how to fine-tune my relationship to the universe.

My gut told me something was wrong, and there must be another way.

There is, and no one likes to hear it, because it involves work.

No one likes to hear it because everyone wants the quick-fix solution and the ability to skip through all the steps it actually takes to achieve personal greatness. But, unfortunately, life doesn’t work that way. And, the “universe” does not have your back. In fact, in reality, the “universe” is simply a collection of atoms and molecules that has absolutely zero investment in how successful or open-hearted you are. Let me tell you what does work, though. What does work is this:

Figure out your soul’s purpose, and then do something about it.

Yup.

Good old fashioned hard work. That is ultimately what gets you to “manifest” your dreams. The universe doesn’t do that for you… you do that for you. But, what certainly helps is finding out what your soul’s purpose is in the first place!

Hint: Your soul's purpose is written in the stars.

Hint: Your soul’s purpose is written in the stars.

There’s nothing worse than the feeling of banging your head against a wall and working your ass off, only to find out you’ve been banging your head against the wrong wall.

While the universe is a collection of atoms and molecules, our part in it is driven by self-will. We do have great participation in this life, and if only there was a way to tell what the smoothest route of our participation must be, then all of our hard work has purpose.

This is how we find meaning. Life itself has no inherent meaning…we must bring meaning to it through our actions and personal development.

The good news is, we do have a way to tell what our soul’s purpose is, and what kind of energies are most alive within us. We are able to ensure that our efforts are in alignment with our highest potential, so that all the work we do helps us to manifest this…for ourselves.
